Pam Ibbotson studied Fine Art (painting) at Sheffield Hallam University, graduating with a first class Honours Degree in 1987. She was elected a member of the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts in 1989. In 2013 she gained an MA in Visual Arts, with distinction, from West Dean College in West Sussex.\r\nPam’s highly textural work has varied from large canvases in oils to small works in gouache, mainly inspired by Peak District landscape. The colours, textures and forms of the area have played an important part in her work, which has been suggestive of landscape, rather than depictive. Recently her paintings have involved the use of mixed media, acrylic paint and metallic pigment. Varying techniques are used, such as pouring paint and manipulating the canvas, combined with brushwork. The complex surfaces are built up in layers resulting in an evocation of natural forms and underlying energies.\r\nAwards the artist has received have included the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts Major Award, the Runner- up Award and the National Westminster Bank Award. Her work has been compared to ‘Van Gogh’s almost visionary sense of the underlying rhythms of nature
