Geometry, rhythm and the unexpected, painted through the vehicle of natural forms where all of these occur and reoccur are constant themes in my work. Natural and man-made patterns are my fascinations and inspirations. M C Escher, Pierre Bonnard and Matisse are heroes.
I studied Fine Art at Manchester College of Art and Design, starting in 1968. Afterwards, I taught art at a school for dyslexic pupils in Brighton; at the college of FE at Crewe and took an MEd at Bangor University in the teaching of Dyslexic pupils. Later I was Assistant Director at Llanover Hall youth arts centre Cardiff. However I have continued to paint and exhibit since graduating from Manchester in 1972. I have had numerous artists’ residencies but now work from my studio just outside Nantwich.
I work mainly in watercolour but explore other media. As well as watercolours I have exhibited and had commissioned drawings, environmental sculpture, 3-D constructions and oil paintings. I have had work accepted for the Royal Academy Summer show, the ICA, the Mall Galleries and others in the UK and abroad. I have exhibited every year since 1975.
