Sheila Dewsbury, Oldham, Lancashire
Sheila Dewsbury is a landscape painter whose work explores the underlying structure of the subject, specially when the form is accentuated by changing weather and light. She takes inspiration from the Pennine hills and valleys around her home, and from remote areas of north Wales and the west of Ireland. She works directly from the subject when possible, or from preparatory sketches or photographs.
She is featured in the new publication by Peter Davies, A Northern School Revisited. Gallery Oldham has recently purchased a painting, Saddleworth Hills at Dusk, for its permanent collection.
Her work has been exhibited in London at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Ten Northern Artists, Westminster Gallery and Northern Lights at the Quaker Gallery.
Other venues include Manchester Buy Art Fair and Edinburgh Festival Fringe, with solo exhibitions at MMU Renold Building, Portico Library and Gallery, Manchester and Saddleworth Museum Gallery.
